Braille is one of the most important accessibility inventions in human history, enabling millions of blind and visually impaired people to read and write independently. Yet most people have never learned even the basics of how it works. Braille Buzz was created to demystify this elegant 6-dot system through hands-on interaction — making it approachable for sighted learners, useful for anyone curious about accessibility, and a fun puzzle game for word nerds.
Braille Buzz is an interactive Braille trainer with four modes. The Learn mode lets you type any text and instantly see it rendered as Braille dot patterns. The Quiz mode tests your ability to recognize Braille characters, words, and numbers with streak tracking and category filters. The Puzzle mode presents complete Braille messages for you to decode word by word, with adjustable difficulty. The Reference chart shows all letters and numbers with their Braille patterns for quick lookup.
Braille uses a 6-dot cell (2 columns × 3 rows) to encode characters. Each dot position is numbered 1-6: dots 1,2,3 run down the left column and dots 4,5,6 run down the right. The letters A-J use only the top four dots (1-2-3-4), K-T add dot 3 to the A-J patterns, and U-Z add dots 3+6. Numbers share the A-J patterns but are prefixed by a "number sign" (dots 3-4-5-6). Braille Buzz maps each character to its dot pattern using a lookup table, then renders each cell as interactive clickable dots with visual feedback.
