Every musician knows that understanding chord construction is fundamental — major vs minor, dominant 7th vs major 7th, why diminished sounds tense. But most chord references are static charts or apps that show finger positions without explaining the interval relationships that make each chord type unique.
Chord Lab is an interactive chord quality explorer. Click any chord type — from simple triads through complex 9th, 11th, and 13th chords — to see its complete interval structure, hear it played, and instantly see how it translates to all 12 keys. It is a reference tool, a learning tool, and a quick-look companion for composition and music theory study.
Each chord type is defined as a stack of intervals measured in semitones from the root. The app uses the Web Audio API to synthesize each note of a chord as a simultaneous oscillator, with adjustable waveform and duration. The interval stack shows every note quality (major third, perfect fifth, etc.) and semitone distance from root. The "All Keys" table computes the note names for each chord type in every key using chromatic transposition.
