Tarot has been used for centuries as a tool for introspection, storytelling, and creative exploration. While many tarot apps exist, they are typically mobile-only or locked behind paywalls. This project creates a free, open, browser-based experience that respects the craft — no tracking, no accounts, no ads.
Deck Read is an interactive tarot card spread builder featuring the complete 78-card Rider-Waite-Smith deck. Draw cards in classic spread layouts, explore the full deck reference, and discover detailed upright and reversed meanings for every card. All card data is embedded directly in the page — no external APIs needed.
The deck uses the Web Crypto API's getRandomValues() for cryptographically secure card shuffling — simulating the experience of physically shuffling a real deck. Cards use CSS 3D transforms for smooth flip animations. The Celtic Cross spread follows the traditional 10-position layout. Reversed cards appear with a 30% probability when enabled, and their meanings are inverted interpretations of the upright position.
