About Measure Craft
Why this project?
Kitchen measurements are a constant source of confusion. US cup-based recipes are baffling to metric users, baker's percentages feel like a secret language, and no tool helps you see how 2/3 cup relates to 150 mL. This project bridges those gaps with visual comparison and interactive conversion.
What is it?
Measure Craft is an interactive kitchen measurement tool with four tools: a visualizer that draws proportional measuring cups, a converter for volumes and weights, a baker's math calculator that shows ingredient ratios as percentages, and a quick reference card set for common conversions.
How does it work?
The visualizer computes each measurement in milliliters (the universal reference), then draws proportional cup outlines with fill levels. The converter uses fixed conversion factors from base units (1 cup = 240 mL, 1 tbsp = 15 mL, 1 tsp = 5 mL). The baker's math engine calculates each ingredient as a percentage of total flour weight, then scales the entire recipe to any target flour amount.
How to use it
Visualizer: Pick a measurement unit and quantity, choose what to compare it against, and see proportional cup drawings with exact values in every system.
Converter: Enter a number and unit, then see all equivalent measurements across US, metric, and UK systems instantly.
Baker's Math: Add ingredients with names and weights (grams). Flour is always 100%. See horizontal bars showing each ingredient's percentage. Change the target flour amount to scale the whole recipe.
Quick Reference: Browse six cards covering volume, weight, temperature, spoon relationships, common baker's percentages, and pan capacity.
