Mind mapping is one of the most effective ways to brainstorm, plan, and organize complex ideas. Yet the best tools require sign-ups, cloud accounts, or expensive subscriptions. MindMesh was built as a completely free, browser-based mind mapper that respects your privacy — no accounts, no tracking, no data sent anywhere.
What is it?
MindMesh is a free-form mind mapping tool that runs entirely in your browser. Create nodes, connect them with lines, color-code by topic, and zoom/pan across an infinite canvas. Everything saves locally in your browser, and you can export your maps as PNG images.
How does it work?
Nodes and connections are stored as plain JSON objects. The canvas renders everything using the HTML5 Canvas API with a virtual coordinate system that supports zooming and panning. Your maps are saved to localStorage automatically, and can be exported as shareable data or PNG screenshots.
How to use it
Add a node: Click the + button in the toolbar (or press N), then click anywhere on the canvas.
Select / move: Use the select tool (V), then drag any node to reposition it. Double-click a node to edit its properties.
Connect nodes: Click the chain button (C), then click two nodes in sequence to create a link between them.
Pan the view: Click and drag on empty canvas space.
Zoom: Scroll wheel, or use the +/− buttons in the toolbar.
Edit a node: Double-click any node to open the properties panel — change text, add notes, or pick a color.
Save / Load: Click the save icon to store your map; click load to restore it from localStorage.
Export: Click the image icon to download your entire mind map as a PNG file.
Keyboard shortcuts: V = Select, N = Add Node, C = Connect, Delete = remove selected node, Escape = cancel current action.
