Build memory palaces, encode numbers into words, create acronyms, and quiz yourself — all powered by proven cognitive science techniques.
Acronym Builder
Enter a list of items, and we'll craft a memorable acronym from the first letters. Click letters to reorder them into pronounceable words.
Major System Encoder
Convert numbers into memorable words using the Major System — a phonetic mapping where each digit becomes a consonant sound. Enter any number and see it transform into a word you can remember.
Memory Palace Builder
The Method of Loci — use familiar spatial locations to anchor information. Name your palace rooms, then attach vivid images to each one.
Quiz Mode
Test your recall with quick-fire questions. Choose a topic and see how well you can remember!
About Mnemonic Forge
Why this project?
Memory techniques like the Major System, Method of Loci (memory palaces), and acronyms have been used for thousands of years — from Greek rhetoricians to modern memory champions who can recall hundreds of digits. Yet there's no single free, interactive tool that lets you learn, practice, and apply all these techniques together. Mnemonic Forge fills that gap.
What is it?
An interactive memory technique lab with four tools:
Acronym Builder — Convert lists into memorable acronyms from first letters
Major System Encoder — Transform numbers into pronounceable words using phonetic digit mapping
Memory Palace Builder — Create spatial memory palaces with named locations and vivid associations
Quiz Mode — Test your recall across all techniques with multiple-choice and flashcard quizzes
How does it work?
The Major System maps each digit 0–9 to consonant sounds: 0=s/z, 1=t/d, 2=n, 3=m, 4=r, 5=l, 6=sh/ch/j, 7=k, 8=f/v, 9=p/b. Vowels are inserted freely to form real words. So "864" = f-sh-r = "fisher" or "farsh." The encoder finds all valid word combinations for any number. Acronyms work by extracting first letters and finding pronounceable rearrangements. Memory palaces use the Method of Loci — an ancient Greek technique where you walk through a familiar place mentally and store items at each stop. The quiz engine generates random practice questions with wrong-answer distractors from the same domain.
How to use it
Acronym Builder: Type items (one per line), click Generate, and you'll see the acronym plus rearranged options that form real words.
Major System: Enter a number to see its word encodings. Use the digit reference chart. Click Decode Word to reverse-lookup a word's number.
Memory Palace: Name your palace, pick how many locations, then fill in each location name and what you want to remember at that spot. Save and review later.
Quiz Mode: Choose a topic (Major System encode/decode, palace review, or custom flashcards), set question count, and start testing your recall. Track your streak and score.
