Cross-stitch is a beloved textile craft practiced by millions worldwide, yet designing original patterns remains frustrating. Tools like Stitch Fiddle require accounts and premium subscriptions for basic features. Pattern designers need a free, private, browser-based tool that works offline — no logins, no watermarks, no limits.
Stitch Chart is a cross-stitch pattern designer that lets you draw on a color-coded grid using a curated DMC embroidery floss palette. Fill cells with colors, use symmetry mirroring for balanced designs, track stitch counts per color, and export your chart as a PNG image or print it directly. It works for cross-stitch, graphgan knitting, pixel art, and latch hook patterns.
The grid is a 2D array of cells, each storing a color value. When you click or drag, the current tool (fill, erase, or color-picker) modifies the array and re-renders the affected cells. Symmetry mirroring computes mirrored coordinates on each stroke. The DMC palette is a curated set of 48 representative embroidery floss colors with hex codes and DMC numbers. Export renders the grid to an off-screen canvas at high resolution. Everything runs client-side with no server communication — your designs never leave your browser.
